Velma Hayes William /United Way Center staff and student of the month

Ms. Angel Coleman was selected as the Velma Hayes Williams/United Way Center student of the month last night. Angel is a great student with a fabulous attitude and perfect attendance.  Staff members pictured are Ms. Grigley, Ms. Gordon, and Ms. Nathan. Commissioner Williams is also pictured with Angel.

On Oct 20th our students visited the Aviation Institute of maintenance.  visit. These kids and some staff members had no idea this facility was located in their back yard. They were very excited and some of them now want to become airplane mechanics and pilots.

Our Student of the Month, Joshua New, attended the Seminole vs Lyman High School game.

Oct. 7th,  the Velma Center & Westside 21st CCLC students traveled to Seminole State to take part in their annual College Fair. Their were College representatives from around the Country. Some Collages in attendance were  Ohio State, Central Florida, Florida State, Seminole State, South Carolina, South Florida, Valdosta State, Valparaiso, Winthrop, Miami, Stetson, Tampa, Jacksonville, West Florida, Southern Mississippi, Connecticut, Alabama, Nova Southeastern, Bethune-Cookman, Embry-Riddle, Liberty, Keiser, Oglethorpe, Georgia, and University of Notre Dame.

The students were set on what College they were going to attend until they went to the next table and then that was the College of their choice. They had a ball and the exposesure from this event is what American Express would call "priceless".  The staff and I will be working with Stetson University In Deland to possibly have the students do a College Tour on a Saturday morning and attend a football game directly after.

The Velma Hayes Williams Center was visited on September 15th by some United Way Board Members. They liked what they saw and the comment was made that "We feel like we're walking on clouds".  That's a testament to the great teachers, students, parents, business partners, and staff we have.

July student of the month at the Velma Hayes Williams United Way Center receiving a  $25.00 gift card and a $100.00 Skateboard.
