Longwood ES Rezoning
2017-18 Elementary Rezone - Longwood Elementary School Reopening
In August 2017, the School Board of Seminole County will be reopening Longwood Elementary School. In order to create an attendance zone for Longwood Elementary School, SCPS embarked on a rezoning that could potentially affect Highlands Elementary, Keeth Elementary, Lake Mary Elementary, Layer Elementary, Winter Springs Elementary, and Woodlands Elementary School attendance zones. An unoccupied area that is projected to have homes in the near future, and is currently in Region 3, may also be affected.
On November 9, 2016, Alternative Plans 1, 2, and 3 were presented to the Superintendent at a public meeting held at the Educational Support Center. After considering public input provided through various avenues, relevant data, and the three alternative plans presented at the public meeting, the Superintendent determined to recommend Alternative Plan 2 MODIFIED to the Board for preliminary approval and permission to advertise the plan for final adoption. The Superintendent’s recommendation was considered by the Board at its meeting on December 20, 2016.
The Board approved Alternative Plan 2 MODIFIED for advertising. It is scheduled to come before the Board for final approval on January 24, 2017.
There will be two public hearings regarding Alternative Plan 2 MODIFIED on January 17, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. and January 24, 2017 at 4 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the School Board meeting room, located at the Educational Support Center, 400 East Lake Mary Boulevard, Sanford, Florida 32773.
