Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) is proud to offer its students several magnet school options, with specialized programs that meet and develop their individual interests and abilities. We've provided additional information on our magnet programs below.

What is a Magnet Program?

Magnet schools are public elementary, middle, and high schools of choice, designed around specialized themes. Magnet programs address the individual interests and abilities and provide students with educational opportunities that take them beyond traditional instructional experiences. An entire campus may be designated as a magnet school orthere may be magnet program "school within a school" with selected students involved. Magnet schools are part of the Seminole County Public Schools system and there are nofees to attend a magnet school. Magnet schools are open to all students who reside inSeminole County by application only.

Transportation is provided to students living more than two miles from the school. Out-of-zone magnet students meeting the two mile criteria for transportation maybe subject tobus rides upto90 minutes each way (less than 10%of routes are 90 minutes). Centralized bus stops for out-of-zone magnet students are located within 1.5 miles of a student’s residence. Students are assigned to available seats by a random selection process and transportation is provided. Elementary Magnets

Goldsboro Elementary Math, Science, & Technology Magnet School

Goldsboro Elementary Math, Science, & Technology Magnet School emphasizes math, science, and technology and is home to the Kids Space Center.

  • The natural connection between math, science, and technology is enhanced through a strong literacy program
  • that aligns with district and state standards.
  • Reading, Writing and social studies skills are developed along with the magnet focus on math, science, and technology. Students are provided opportunities to explore their talents and strengths in music, art, and physical education.
  • Students who complete the fifth grade at Goldsboro Elementary School have a magnet program link* to Sanford Middle School.
Hamilton Elementary School for Engineering and Technology

Hamilton Elementary School for Engineering and Technology has a focus on the field of Educational Robotics.

  • Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, students will engage in learning that is infused with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as the primary vehicle.
  • Transportation is provided to and from the magnet school for students who reside more than 2 miles from the school.
Midway Elementary School of the Arts

Midway Elementary School of the Art offers an arts infused core curriculum and arts instruction that develops talents including ballet, dance, band, orchestra, vocal music, and art.

  • Students learn mathematical principles by studying an Alexander Calder mobile, understand sound waves by exploring different percussion instruments or deliver the news from Dzvirtualdz locations designed in the digital graphics lab.
  • Students at Midway Elementary School of the Arts are learning the art of excellence both on stage and in the classroom.
  • Students who complete the fifth grade at Midway Elementary School of the Arts have a magnet program link* to Millennium Middle School.

Millennium Middle School Fine Arts & Communication: is designed to serve the academic and creative needs of every student.

South Seminole Middle School Leadership & Global Connections Magnet

South Seminole Middle School Leadership & Global Connections Magnet focuses on math, science, and technology.

  • The curriculum develops the skills students need tobecome productive and responsible leaders of the future.
  • Students have the opportunity to explore the language and culture of societies that impact our daily lives.

High School Magnets

Crooms Academy of Information Technology (AOIT)

Crooms Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) is Seminole County’s only district-wide magnet high school.

  • Crooms AOIT provides cutting edge innovation in teaching and learning through a technology-enriched environment.
  • Students at Crooms engage in a rigorous and relevant curriculum that prepares them for post-secondary education with industry-validated technology skills.
The Academy of Health Careers

The Academy of Health Careers at Seminole High School offers a comprehensive rigorous academic program for students who plan to pursue a career as a healthcare professional.

  • Hands-on learning opportunities enable students to preview various health care careers through job shadowing and clinical experiences in area hospitals, clinics, and medical and veterinary offices.
The Institute for Engineering

The Institute for Engineering at at Lyman High School utilizes Project Lead the Way (PLTW) designed for the student interested in pursuing a career in engineering.

  • This nationally recognized curriculum is a highly creative, technology rich, college preparatory program.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) at Seminole High School and Winter Springs High School

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) is offered at Seminole High School and Winter Springs High School is an internationally recognized, rigorous pre-university course of study that incorporates an extensive liberal arts curriculum containing humanities, social studies, world languages, mathematics, and science.

  • The IB Diploma Program, affiliated with the International Baccalaureate Organization, is designed for highly motivated college-bound students seeking educational challenges.
